"This piece was written in a year that marked a turning point in my artistic journey. I have yet to fully understand what I wrote and why. The words simply came to me, just like that. Reading them now, what I sense is the presence of an internal negotiation of my expectations and the realities that are found in art, design, the city, and my identity.”
- Boedi Widjaja
The work was first conceived as a sequence of keyword-pairs, for example “Message/ Messenger” and “Desires/Demands”. Each keyword-pair was then used as the titles of aphoristic sentence(s) written following a simple rule - both words in each title have to appear in the sentence(s) of the next title as well as those of itself; drawing/writing a line dashed with multiple linkages across the aphorisms.
